A gorgeous Sunday morning, the clouds are already slipping back out over the ocean and it’s just pleasant. No walk last night, but i managed to get in a good swim and i turned up the current two notches, so i was most definitely working. 24 minutes in peak, 6 in warm up, 10.8 METs, 895 strokes. Average heart rate 153. About time. Recovery HR was pretty good, too. Fact that I’ve finally figured out how to get my heart rate in the water consistently gives me hope. That was so frustrating when it was off and on.

The recomp experiment continues. Really do wish there were such a thing as targeted reduction, because that’s the overall goal, but it is what it is. Blob is holding, water low, muscle mass is down. Interesting because my biceps were crying quietly most of the evening. They’re fine this morning. Will work on drinking lots of water today.

Strawberries are my friend at the moment, along with egg whites. Eating a whole egg here and there. Running off to the store in a minute because i have no salad in the house which is why you saw the watermelon for lunch yesterday. That ended up being a pretty tasty combo, but i think i prefer lemon juice, ginger and honey for the flavor burst.

Another pic from the park Friday. I cropped out most of the burst on this one leveraging the power of the FS square. 🤣 Probably the most practical way around the light problem is to walk to the darker parts of the park without light, but that carries a different set of risks.

Katsolo, I think your actual muscle might be higher. Your scale must be including all or some water in your muscle estimate. If your water decreases for whatever reason, then it may look like your muscle is also decreasing when in fact the muscle tissue itself is growing. See if you have a bit more muscle now after the water is subtracted. I get my body comp and muscle estimate from my physician and it seems disaggregated from water (my muscle mass is presented as 27.7 lbs in a 189 lbs body). I doubt you have three times the amount of muscle I have. Though maybe…? :)

No worries, personal musings, based on years with and without trainers, etc. I’m lucky in that i built muscle early and have been consistently active even when i ate too much. I just use the smart scale to track trends, not as an exact measurement. I’m just playing around with protein vs. other macros at the moment.

Your words are beautiful and so is the photo. Watermelon has been my new friend, but I love strawberries. I am missing the physical activity piece. As silly as it sounds I'm having problems finding shoes I can wear.

I’ve been thinking of buying the smart scale—I like getting all this body comp data from my doctor (but that is only every three weeks or so), and study them rather obsessively. I appreciate seeing how others use the data, so thanks for explaining how you’re looking at your numbers. It makes sense to look at the trends rather than the absolute numbers, for sure.

I will tell you a secret about spot reduction but how much money do you have 😀

Ok Katsolo since you asked so nicely :) . There is no scientific research that specifically supports spot reduction most of them say that it does not exist, however there was a paper, I forgot the name that stated that problem areas, around mens waist, back of womens arms, womens legs etc seemed to have a correlation. The correlation seemed to be that these areas people had bad circulation in and therefore it was aplace the body utilized last to get rid of the fat. Now just because Science hasn't proven something yet does not mean it does not work, bodybuilders, who are always on the cutting edge of losing fat and building muscle in the early 60, 70 and 80s used to follow the following technigue. Before they did cardio and during cardio they would do situps or ab work they believed that get that area warm, taxining it and increasing the blood supply helped target a little more fat loss in these areas. I have used this technique myself, it does not give you amazing results, as you still need to drop overall fat levels, however I did see increased seperation and definition in these areas and I still follow this technique today. So before my cardio session I might pop in a couple of sets of ab work or inbetween cardio or before sprints. If your problem is arms maybe do a few sets of dips, and overhead tricep extensions before your cardio. Worse case scenario its going to up your calorie expenditure which will lead you to losing more fat quicker, best case scenario it will help speed up fat loss in these stubborn areas and will make you stronger and more defined in this area. Hope this helps.

Thanks, but if I told you my ultimate goal was to lose the pudge and keep my boobs, it sounds so superficial. They always seem to disappear first along with my butt.

Hi Katsolo, I bring good news, you can most certainly lose the pudge and keep and build the butt. Need to do some good resistant exercises for great glutes. However the leaner you get the more you loose the boobs :) Thats just one of lifes laws however when a lady is in great shape, with strong glutes, then the smaller boobs fit into the overall package. If you are losing your butt while you lean down you probably not doing enough strength training.

Kat just from watching my hubs over the years switch from bulking up big muscles via lifting heavy weights to HIIT workout over past 18-20 months i can tell you firsthand he built his bum up. It’s a thing of wonder. Looks like every gorgeous running backs bum in the nfl. Powerful, strong and juicy. But he puts his all into those workouts. Lots of burpees. Loads of them. Lots of kettlebell stuff for about 45 minutes straight. Looks like he was dipped in water after first ten minutes. But his bum is a piece of art these days where it used to be his chest and arms. This workout did change his physiology in that he lost some size and a small amount of strength on the days he does decide to lift but he says the way he feels it is so worth it. For what its worth.
