Oh, the horror! I just got an email from the corporate HQ of Wienerschitzel. I called them Saturday on a lark. Just mildly curious about the carb content of the hots dogs.

They had a good deal - 5 hot dogs for $5.55. SO I bought 5, came home, tossed the buns and had a yummy dinner. They were tiny, admittedly (40g each, and that was all I had, except 2 pieces of 0g carb cheese). Took a guess that without the bun, they had about 2g carbs each.

Uhhh, wrong. Try 10g carbs EACH! What the ever-loving "F"???? Are you kidding me?

No sugar, though, so a plus there! I just updated the FS database for this item (Original Mustard dog, no bun, with a severe warning: This is NOT a good low carb choice!)

So now I'm thinking that my bloating and weight gain is not from meds and sugar free mints or some unknown mystery, but is in fact from having a week's worth of carbs in ONE STINKIN' MEAL! ROFL! It probably threw me out of ketosis, released a boatload insulin, and bloated me like a balloon! I haven't had to cope with carbs like that in 6 weeks. Holy crap, I'm so bummed out.

Oh man, what an eye opener. On the upside, they also emailed me the nutrition information for their Angus Dog which has only 1g carb. I think I'll be having that from now on, even though I won't be having 5 of them in one sitting.

Just goes to show you that wild guessing is a bad idea. This is why I'm so vigilant, 98% of the time. The 2% nailed me. Dang it.

Well, I probably gained 2 pounds in water and glycogen that I will get off with some HIIT at the gym tonight. Live and learn. And in this case, laugh at my own folly a little bit, too! LOL!!!

I used to love Wienerschnitzel years ago and haven't eaten there in a long, long time; looks like it's going to be a lot longer as there are definitely better options out there (I think I'll stick with unwiches and protein-style cheeseburgers for my dining out). Thank you so much for this useful information!

And it's really not necessary for them to add all that.

It's amazing the stuff injected into foods, The book Tomatoe land is very interesting for all healthy food conscious people- quite an eye opener!!!!!

We really have to be diligent. Some regular dogs have 4 carbs. But 10 is outrageous!!

Plus most hot dogs are filled with chemical flavorings, nitrates, sodium.

All Beef Angus hot dogs are great!

Most of them have animal parts I would never ever consider eating.

Processed meat has unknown substances?!?!?! Who'da thunk it. Did they happen to tell you how many rodent droppings they're allowed to have in the 'good ones'? :D

Not called "Scrotum Burgers" for nothing.

Exactly, I've watched them being made when Swift had a plant in St Joe. I used to know the figures the FDA allows for misc stuff like hair, insects, droppings etc. Can't remember now what it is. Same goes for processed deli meats like bologna.

Angus just means it come from that type of cattle. They also have skin hair feet, innards, ears, noses, etc.

This is why I like to make my own sausage. I know exactly what went into it, and what didn't.
14 Okt 14 vom Mitglied: northernmusician
Of course, my sausages aren't 'safe' since they didn't come from an inspected plant and I didn't use bleach in the meat to make sure all the bacteria was killed.
14 Okt 14 vom Mitglied: northernmusician
Because we all need our minimum daily requirement of bleach? Gross!

Mrsmole, how are you feeling today? I was worried about you yesterday. Being bloated can be really painful. And darn those sneaky carbs! I have been shocked at the carb content of foods that you would never expect.
14 Okt 14 vom Mitglied: jeread
Guys and gals, I've always been one of those "ignorance is bliss" people. If they put bleach in my food and I don't know it, and I'm still alive, then I'm okay with that. I once had an ex who told me he spit in my soup once when he was mad at me. Hell, he might have done other awful things to my soup. Does this mean I'll never let anyone touch my food again? No! I means what I don't know that doesn't kill me, I don't care about. Life is too short to stress over rat turds. If there's enough MSG in my hot dog, the rodent droppings are probably quite good! LOL. Kidding, sort of. But if I worried about this stuff, I'd have to only eat things I killed myself and I don't have the time for that. Call me in denial or crazy, but I'm still alive, I'm still losing weight, and I'm okay with it, for the most part. As for the bloating, it's slowly going down. I'm as gassy as the Goodyear Blimp, but it will take time. HIIT last night did nothing for water weight loss, so disappointed. Low cal yesterday and today. No idea why I'm stuck at 193, but it is what it is.

Whole Foods just opened up in this county. May check them out. Looking at other people's diets. Maybe some healthier type foods with out additives and preservatives will do me good.

NM, I mostly buy sausage from a trusted butcher who makes his sausage, I've watched him make it, including grinding the meat from chunks of pork or beef. I do make it occasionally and have a small hand grinder.
15 Okt 14 vom Mitglied: wholefoodnut
A butcher is a good way to go, too. We bought a commercial grinder about five years ago. It was an excellent investment for us. I'm not sure it would be if we were buying meat at the store. Dang it, Dom, you're about the stickinest person I've ever met.
