Like going over an enormous speed bump in your car an two miles per hour, I finally fell over the 210-212 pound "weight hump" that I'd been stuck at for 2-3 weeks. It felt like "UGH!"

I think the 4 day do-it-yourself rip-up-two-rooms-of-flooring-and-lay-new-flooring project helped considerably because my body had no choice but to dig into fat stores for fuel.

It was a week ago tonight when that project began and I was back to the gym last night. It took over 3 days for the swelling and muscle soreness to go away, but when it finally did, the weight finally broke and boy was I happy.

Mixing up my calories seemed to be the magic formula that caused my body to finally figure out I wasn't starving. I'm going to keep it up and see if I can stay on track. Clearly, losing 2 lbs/week (which I was doing up until April) isn't possible anymore now that I'm down over 70 pounds, but I think I can keep up a steady pace of 1.5 if I keep mixing up the calories like I have been, specifically on gym days per NM.

My original goal was to lose 96 pounds in 12 months, 8 pounds a month for 12 months, or a little less than 2 pounds a week. Of course, I didn't realize that 2 pounds a week isn't that hard at the beginning, but gets harder as you go. It's not like there's anyone holding my feet to the fire on this goal, it's just something I want to try to do. I'm not obsessed, just driven. There's a difference. :)

That's awesome! I'm experiencing a bit of plateau myself and am trying everything I can to get over it as quickly as possible -- more good fats, try to get more sleep, mix up calories, cut out as much dairy as possible -- but haven't budged much yet. I guess I'll just keep on keeping on and hope for a great drop sometime soon! And yeah, it's hard for me to adjust my goal. I originally wanted to lose 100lbs by December (started around Jan/Feb), but I'm realizing that that's probably not too feasible. But like you said, there's no rush!

This has been a rough month for you. We all hit these points where we have to reassess and try new things. Next I think you might try Puhpines idea of... what was that now... standing on one foot under a full moon?

i forgot to mention it NM, you have to do it butt-naked or it won't work... now who mentioned i was not a witch?

Well, if it involves a tree, you might just be a Druidess. I'll have to check in with your hubby to check on the other thing. 0.0

Thanks for all the encouragement. Stepping up the exercise seems to have realy helped, and mixing up calories, too. 1000 calories one day and 1900 calories another day, then 1300 on another day. Totally random, where some days even I have no idea what I'll be eating. I sort of let my body decide (within reason) what I'll have, depending on if I work out that day (more calories those days), and NEVER any junk. Eating gigantic tomatoes with some cottage cheese on top has been working for me to keep full and keep things "moving" (if you know what I mean).

It's great that you got over the hurdle.....but if you get stuck again I've got a ceramic tile kitchen floor that needs to be ripped out. Just trying to be helpful! :)

inquiring minds that sold flooring for 16 years + want to know what you tore out and what you put back in? I am going to guess carpet and replaced with hardwood or laminate flooring. I will trade you plateau weights. I haven't been able to drop below 242 since January. I at least realize what I have to do to stay within 10 pounds for 6 months...

Congrats!

kmunson, we tore out disgusting, dusty carpeting that was playing havoc with my husband's allergies with amazing vinyl flooring that looks exactly like pine hardwood. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it. I will post the photos in tomorrow's Journal for all to see. Before and after. You won't believe it. The pieces fit together like a jigsaw puzzle: slide in the end, then angle 30 degrees, then snap down, and on to the next piece. I will get Mark to take a picture of me folded up on the floor like a card table. I'm so limber now, I was able to help a lot!

Awesome!! Bout the weight and your project. There is some pretty cool flooring available. I have a package of cork sitting in my dining room for a project, sounds like the same method.

At least you're going over a speed bump, I'm going up the mountain and car starts rolling in reverse :)
