You can be completely safe and following all the rules and it’s still extremely dangerous. My dad’s brother was on his motorcycle and hit by a drunk driver, who ran a red light, he was dragged for 2 blocks and wound up dying. The only thing my dad made us promise was to never get on one… @OTB that’s crazy, good thing you had that helmet on… ! 

Oh my gosh I can’t believe i forgot but one of my favorite cousins over 30 years ago was hit by a drunk driver when coming home from work on his bike. Left behind a baby and wife. Senseless. 

It's sad. I get many calls a year where someone was either killed immediately or had to be air lifted after a bike wreck that would be a fender bender if they were in a car. You'd think it was young kids but more often than not it's older men who just don't have the same control or reflexes to avoid a veh accident. One of them was a recently retired police officer. I remember muting a line because I was dispatching help and the first officer on scene, who was a friend of his, could be heard crying on the line because if what he had to respond to. He had called to tell me who it was and that he was deceased and probably also because he needed someone to talk to at the moment. I can't imagine coming upon that when it's someone you know.

O diablo thats terrible. It was really sad when my cousin was killed. 5 years ago when my mom was in hospital basically on hospice and i was missing tons of work to be with her i hired a friend of mine to work with me in my dept. he was about 62 years old 6’3 height weight appropriate and a gentleman Harley rider. He lived about 45 minutes away and while i was in hospital he got the sun in his eyes on the freeway and didn’t realize the truck in front of him was stopped and ran right into it at 60 mph. He broke nearly every bone in his body. Died twice and was revived and spent the next year in the hospital and then rehabilitation. Took him about two years to recover. He had to learn to walk again. Honest to God miracle. He had ridden Harley’s for decades. Just one moment where the sun interfered with his vision and changed his life. Needless to say he doesn’t ride anymore. Nor did he ever work again. He had retired once, got bored and went back to work. Now hes not bored hes just grateful. So many stories about bike accidents. When gas got so expensive my hubs had a new job at Boeing and commute was nearly 2 hours a day. He wanted to get rid of our hillbilly truck (read 6” lift wheels and tires and 10 mpg) for a bike. I threw a fit and he didn’t. Thank goodness. That was probably 10 years or 11 years ago. Now hes 6 minutes from work🥰. Sorry. Ranting again. 

I grew up with my brother riding a bike and my dad. My mom and I hated it too. The one night that my mom fell asleep before my brother came home, is the night he wiped out and survived to tell it. So scary. He always loved bikes and even owned and rode one as an adult, but recently sold it thank God. Do you have law? I can only imagine the stories you have and calls you receive. 😓 Thank you for your service. ❤️
