Like a good wife DP was concerned that my 4k calorie mostly processed food diet was killing me so I had blood work done. Everything is in normal range and triglycerides are actually in the low range. Coronary risk was at the lowest risk range. Guess I'll continue. And actually, I am now closer to 3k calories since I'm cutting. I guess a healthy weight and exercise really are the most important factors. I knew they would return in range given how good I feel all the time.

Keyten that's awesome!

The whole sugar causes diabetes myth is pretty prevalent to this day, keyten, unfortunately. 200+ grams of sugar average for several years. Still disease free. And I'm loving your results and continued success! Kennyn, I've passed the grocery store 😭. Donuts will have to do.

The sugar “myth” of diabetes isbecause they did not know that it’s carbs in general that are the issue as well as other factors. If anyone has ever smelled the breath of a person in full blown diabetic keto acidosis you would have a better understanding of why they thought it was from too much sugar. The breath has a sickening sweet smell of over ripe fruit. Not a pleasant odor.

What are carbs the issue to? Which foods for example?

Isn’t the real issue over eating? No point in blaming carbs or fat or even sugar for that matter.

Loveto educate— yep that is it in a nutshell. DO NOT OVEREAT. Stay within a calorie range that takes into account your activity level. You need a balanced diet of carbs, protein, fats, fiber . Your body needs the nutrients in all of the food groups to enable us to stay as healthy as we can. Portion control, moderation, good fats (lard is not a bad fat) and a diet of LOWER CARBS than what we have eaten in the past. I am older than many here and in my life and career as a nurse I have seen every WOE hailed as a panaceas and then down the line found out that new research and info has shot holes in that diets theory. Moderation in all things allows a person to eat and enjoy IF they can master the concept which according to many here is impossible for them to do..

Why lower carbs and not lower fat though? The countries with the highest life expectancy have high carb diets. I'm eating 50-60% carbs. Do you mean less processed foods like donuts?
22 Aug 19 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
Diablo— that is exactly right. Not all carbs are created equal. A donut is delicious and can certainly be enjoyed once in a while as can ice cream or a piece of cake. But those things offer us nothing that promotes and supports our health . They do offer a simple pleasure once in a while but not a dozen donuts or an entire pizza or an entire carton of ice cream. That’s where the problem is. Ridiculous amounts of non nutritive food. We should be eating to our personal RDI based on all the usual suspects; height, weight, gender, physical activity level. Our bodies need all the available macros plus fiber. Carbs are important because that is where we get so much of our basic nutrition from. Vitamins, minerals most of the micronutrients that we need to survive.. so you eat a certain amount of protein, carbs and fats based on your bodies needs and the latest nutritional theories of the day. Where we have gotten into trouble is OVEREATING. So much delicious food everywhere. Fats were demonized forever mainly because of trans fats and the horrific explosion of heart disease.. trans fats are gone but the underlying diseases are still there. Further research showed that dietary cholesterol has little to do with heart disease for MOST people. The cholesterol that is killing us is manufactured by the liver. People with dangerously high cholesterols and obesity and diabetes still have to use extreme caution.. even lard is no longer off limits it is more than 50% mono saturated fat— better than butter. The carb issue is that we are wearing our poor pancreases out at a rapid pace. If you eat in a moderate portion controlled manner and don’t graze and snack all day, your body can keep up with your food intake. Digestion of a general meal takes 6-8 hours. If you are constantly feeding your face, the body cannot do any other repair work because it is constantly trying to digest what you are eating. Insulin resistance develops, and diabetes. Once people get put on insulin it is extra hard for them to loose weight because insulin is a fat storing hormone.. Some T2 diabetics here on FS are doing great controlling their calories, intake and their blood sugars with Keto diets and I really admire their tenacity. But it is not a cure— it is a control because you have removed the offending substance. But as soon as the Keto diet goes by the wayside the elevated blood sugars will be back. That is part of the reason why Keto is not fully Endorsed by many because the majority of people will not stick with it forever. Apparently if you are fully fat adapted even moderate cheat meals will not throw you out of Ketosis. But moderate cheat meals is not what we see here and I would venture to say that the majority are not fully fat adapted. Diabetes is a horrible horrible disease but so many do not take it seriously enough. Even though they may have grown up in a household of people with kidney disease, heart disease, amputations even that is not enough motivation to not let it happen to them without a fight. Type I Diabetic is genetic. Period. The luck of the draw. Type two has an autoimmune component and a huge diet and weight component. It is the one that we can do our very best to prevent. Many people on both sides of my family have type 2 but I Work hard to keep it from happening to me. I’m rambling. I’m tired. I’m going to sign off now. Good night Diablo

I agree but donuts, ice cream, pizza, etc have more fat calories than carb calories. ☺️
