I don't have calorie goals, never have. Most keto dieters couldn't give a flip about calories, that's not what the diet centers around. Playing the, "calories are king" card has no merit.

Yeah, but keto allowed you to eat very low calorie, which is why you lost the weight.

The quote a couple posts ago is why many believe they found the too good to be the true cure to their weight loss woes. Then most will continue to lose since there is only so much bacon, cheese, avocados and pork rinds one can eat. Keto is also good at controlling hunger pangs. Great combo for success.

And not caring about calories is akin to not caring about gravity. It still affects you even if you ignore it.

To quote Dr. Jason Fung, "The CICO model very useful because it efficiently flags people who are not all that knowledgable about obesity, and I can safely ignore them. There are many of these people out there, and not everybody is worth listening to."

This an interesting article of identical twins going on opposite dietary approaches. Both lost weight regardless of diet choice. Tracking/calorie counting doesn’t matter as long as you’re in a deficit, you can create it either directly or indirectly or both, in any manner of your choosing, with any dietary preferences, physical activity or not. As long as it’s present, weight will be lost. The opposite is true as well. Some people just may HAVE to be more restrictive in their choices because they may eat too much of X food causing them to not lose weight, be it due to overconsumption knowingly/unknowingly, or lack of self control etc. too many variables, but any and all diets cause weight loss for the same reasons they all deal with some or all forms of, restriction/control/portions. Which all of those factors people don’t pay attention to causing them to gain fat in the first place. Anyways, here’s the link. Also I think I’ll adopt Phil’s saying and say I’m “tracking my fairy farts” :p http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2546975/One-twin-gave-sugar-gave-fat-Their-experiment-change-YOUR-life.html

Then ignore me. Take Fung's advice. I have some friends who still follow other quacks like Dr. Oz too.

Tracking fairy farts can be counter-productive because it's still promoting an overall obsession with food. Eat low-carb food to satiety when hungry. Can't get much simpler than that for beginners. Then you can throw some deliberate calorie restricting strategies into the mix and see some significant progress.

So, what you're saying is that you have the answer for everyone? It's nice to live in your own world, eh? You can restrict your choices or learn to regulate them. There is no right answer for all. It's just one of life's choices.
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
No, I don't assume to have the answer for everyone. That would be more like what you're suggesting by slamming down the, discredited "calories are king" theory.

Calling calories fairy farts is not surprising coming from someone that disregards science in favor of anecdotes and hypotheses. That's the difference between Alan Aragon, James Krieger, Brad Schoenfeld and charlatans like Fung, Taubes, and Oz.

I mean all foods have calories and we burn them to function. If the backbone of human tissue gain/loss and sustenance of life doesn't come down to calories, what do you think it is? Did Fung coin another term? Fairy energy, perhaps?
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
I have a masters degree in science, please spare me the, "disregards science" canard.

Elimination diets are like training wheels for dieters. No need to think, just coast. I prefer to have full control. Carbs are one of the greatest joys in life, especially when you add some fat.
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
You have no self-control. It's funny how people that taut the idea of, "flexible dieting" have absolutely no impulse control. It's not the diet that should be flexible, but the person, and if you can't adjust to eliminate foods now, lord help you should you ever have to.
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: @philrmcknight
Then why do you disregard it(science) when it comes to dieting? Do you just believe all of the metabolic ward studies that prove fat loss is equal when calories and protein are hocus pocus?
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
I'm not disregarding science, you are. Calories are one relatively insignificant aspect of the bigger picture. You're disregarding the cognitive science.
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: @philrmcknight
Oh, man... I support everyone’s path, and their absolute right to do what works for them... But thank you. I cannot agree more.

There you go again. You don't have the right answer for everyone, Phil. Life is too short to avoid the best parts of it(amazing food like Pizza, ice cream, etc.). You're the one who can't eat carbs while getting into shape. So, who has no self-control?
09 Mai 18 vom Mitglied: -Diablo
I don't have the right answer for everyone. And neither do you. I do just fine without, "amazing" (lmao) food. I don't want the carbs. And it's you that has no self-control otherwise you wouldn't be obsessed with food.
