i'm not sure how i lost even a little. my feet were so swollen it hurt. i don't know what that's about. i thought it might be my new blood pressure med and i was going to go back to the old one, but now i can't find the old bottle. my weight was up really high, even yesterday. but i will take the loss. the important thing is i've definitely been making some habit changes and i've been tracking everything. this week i went above my calorie count most days, but i'm certainly not eating as much as i was before i started.

Congrats for the loss! :) Sodium makes me swell up. Anything that comes in a box or a package usually has salt added to it.

yep, but i definitely didn't eat too much sodium. i didn't have anything packaged except for some tater tots. i don't put salt on anything. usually i eat a lot of chips and i didn't have any this week. it's very odd. thanks!

I watch my salt, too. I used to buy the instant oatmeal packets, but now I buy plain oats with nothing added, and make my own salt free oatmeal. Hope your swelling has gone down by now! Have a great week!

the swelling is better. it was so weird. my mom had thrombitis when i was little. she stopped putting salt on everything so i just got used to having things with no salt. i never add it when i am cooking. my husband puts it on everything without even tasting first. i buy plain oats too. that sounds good. i haven't eaten them in a while.

Does your "new" medication for hypertension have a diuretic? If it does NOT and your previous medication did, this change would be easy to recognize with swollen feet & ankles. I went through that dilemma with my high blood pressure medication and it was frightening. Best to call the doctor.

Gnewfry, I'm often surprised by how much salt is in everything. I don't add salt to much either - but normal foods just seem to have so much - even non-boxed things. I've read that an RDI of 2300 mg for women should be the top (I've also read 2000 but try to go no higher than 2300). It can be tough. If you're going higher than 2300 mg/day of sodium, that could be a part of the fluid retention.

i don't think either of the meds has a diuretic. the one i'm taking now is bystolic and the old one was propranolol. deb, i should check my sodium. you're right, i don't think i'm getting much, but it is in everything.

My armband recommends that I limit sodium to 1500 mg a day, which is hard to do but I can go several days and be successful. Monday dinner is always soup day at my house, and if I don't make the soup myself, I will be opening a can of soup which has loads of salt. I need to get back to cooking it myself!
