Geophagia may be a new word for you. It is for me. Our history of eating dirt. I find it extraordinary interesting that this was seen as especially important for pregnant woman. This makes a lot of sense. Dirt is mostly Silica, and a newborn is full of Silica. A mother who eat dirt during a pregnancy is able to carry many beautiful children 'they' say. Silica is needed for plants also, and it makes the plant strong, flexible and drought tolerant. This part of our human history seem forgotten.

But in some cultures, this wisdom from our ancestors is still alive. I was able to buy processed dirt/clay today. It is purified, formed and burned, and is considered a tasty snack. Expect to have it in house soon, and will tell more then. Taste, texture and such.

How many calories is each dirt snack?

Seems the only thing I found is how eating dirt causes all kinds of health issues and it can weirdly become an addiction. The purported benefits are a belief system, similar to people believing keto is better for fat loss. Just giving a random example lol

Geophagia(practice of eating earth, such as eating clay or chalk). Human Geophagia may be related to pica(eating disorder, craving for non-nutritive items.

Geophagia. Geophagy is one of the symptoms of hypochromic microcytic anaemia, associated with hookworm infection and deficient iron intake, .....thats what I came across ......

This brings a whole new meaning to my wife making fun of my health food eating. I haven't tried actual dirt, but she is always saying my organic health food tastes like - dirt.

A few years back Diatomaceous Earth was a big deal going around - for the same reasons. Some people claimed fabulous results from introducing it into their diets. I tried it for a month because I figured I had nothing to lose... (abdominal issues un-diagnosed or resolved despite $$$ tests) so I was grasping at magic beans.) I never noticed any change - positive or negative. But everyone is different. I believe a large contributor to anything working is positive thoughts about it so if you believe it's helping, it may very well help. Even if it isn't the 'dirt' the very idea of it can result in a change in approach to your diet so that you eliminate something else - and that, in and of itself, is the change that showed a positive effect.

there is a drugstore equivalent, I think, and it basically functions as a physical laxative for those that experience hard stools. also works with cats. DE is still a thing out here in SoCal. Try what you want as long as it's not toxic or otherwise detrimental to your health. As for the "Georgia clay-eaters", those folks were found to have a mineral deficiency which was indeed addressed by the trace minerals in the clay they ate. Town was near where we lived and I think it was kaolin they were after. Wow, there's a whole movie on it now. https://www.npr.org/sections/thesalt/2014/04/02/297881388/the-old-and-mysterious-practice-of-eating-dirt-revealed

Is there a full moon right now? One might suspect that taking into consideration posts made since 1/1. All things in moderation. Yes, that includes LC woe. I hope 2020 is a year of learning for all of us. And, that we each find niches in diet that helps us reach goals we didn’t think possible.
